My first book club meeting

A page turner. Highly recommended.

I have always wanted to join a book club and in Otley my dream is fulfilled.

Thanks to Anita who invited me to join the book club, I not only came across this page turner but also met a group of people who enjoyed reading.

Lexi, one of the participants of the book club.

We met in a pub (pub again! I must write about my experience of the pub culture here) and before we started, we all ordered a drink.
Guess what I had ordered? A coffee!!! I’m afraid I would soon be known in Otley as the one who drinks coffee in pub. (Yes, if you happen to come across someone with a mug of coffee in a pub in Otley, that’s probably me).

I had a coffee instead of beer or wine because alcohol made me sleepy. I felt falling asleep when discussing a good read would be too much of a disrespect.

I have always to join (or to found) a book club back in Hong Kong but most of my friends didn’t read regularly. Before I departed for the UK, I tried to give away by books but I managed to find a new owner of one of them only. And libraries wouldn’t take them. I was asked if that’s due to censorship. I would never have expected that question years ago. Much has changed.

Thank you for welcoming me, fellow book club members. And thank you for making that mug of coffee for me, the White Swan Pub.
